The article I chose was about allowing illegal immigrants to be counted into the 2020 census and how cities fell about allowing this to happen. The author uses a lot of ethos to build the idea that the cities support the bill in the Senate. He uses the quotes for many reputable people to strengthen his case, which seems to be in support of the bill.

One of the quotes used are by Dan Stein, director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, who says “‘ We’re talking about billions of dollars in taxpayer benefits over the next few years…The payout for the taxpayer is enormous and income to the Treasury is minuscule’ “. Stein talks about how the city will as a whole will benefit from this bill as the city can now get the current amount of money to give support to the many people who need it. \

The author also uses a quote from Sen. Martha McSally that says “‘There is a cost for communities for sure….Whether it is in uncompensated care in hospitals or the education system in different ways. It has never really been measured, but it is very real'”. This shows support by saying that now the problem will be measured and the government can develop ways to address the problem.

The ethos used in this article is very compelling because the author uses very reputable sources and people to support the idea of the bill. The style and writing offers a look into current politics because with the 2020 census coming up, and the largest amount of illegal immigrants in the US to date, the question arises that how do we help the taxpayer.
